Reciprocity, Emotional Abandonment, and Healing CPTSR CPTSD codependency #emotionalrainbow #print

Hello Friends,

Recording this video was hard because it required me to access and process some deeper pain. With that came the gifts of clarity and breakthroughs, in the form of self-compassion. So I’m grateful. But still… it was hard. I hope you find it helpful on your journey forward. #imperfectandawesome

Emotional literacy is key to healing because with it, you learn communication skills and self-compassion skills. These skills are underdeveloped in our culture in general. (And much worse if you were raised in a narcissistic environment).

Much love,

Happy D!

Here’s my version of the emotional scale (also called emotional ladder and in the video I called it the Emotional Rainbow). Click the image to enlarge it.

  1. Thank you Debbie. Sometimes those of us who are in the process of recovering from CPTSR, don’t realize we are out of touch with ourselves. Reminders like these help us get back on track. Unexpected events that trigger anger or sadness can also trigger a wall of denial within us, so we look as if we are ok, but inside our bellies are rolling or out hearts are palpitating. This is because the wall keeps us at arms distance from our feelings of anger and sadness. These reminders help to bring us back to our bodies, honoring our feelings and move into recovery from those blocked emotions quicker. Thanks again for bringing up this topic.
