A few weeks ago, it dawned on me that every single person I know is either suffering from emotional trauma and/ or personally knows someone who is. (WTF!!) Unfortunately, most people have no idea how to process it and move beyond it. BUT, once you know how, the power is in your hands.

Many psychologists aren’t comfortable with (or adept at) dealing with post traumatic stress, especially when it’s caused by emotional abuse or neglect. It requires a courageous willingness to experience a vast range of feelings, without judgment. But there is a healing path that is growing wider. And there are a growing number of us who have made it through to the other side, evidence that it is possible – to heal and to thrive. A Harvard psychologist coined the term CPTSD in 1995: Complex Post Traumatic Stress DISORDER. But a few of us who’ve been through it agree that it is NOT a “disorder”. We have named it CPTSR: Complex Post Traumatic Stress RESPONSE.

If there was a simple healing formula for CPTSR, it would be an honest embodiment of the following path (not just mental, not just emotional, but experienced throughout the person’s body and being):

  • awareness
  • acceptance
  • articulation
  • allowing
