I just bumped into a lovely lady who told me that she likes my posts… but she usually reads them in the bathroom. 🚽
I told her that’s awesome. I’ll take it!
But then the conversation deepened. She mentioned seeing how much my closest friends believe in me and support my work.
And then she said it. Quietly.
“I don’t have any friends.”
OMG.
She is such a kind and beautiful woman.
She has children and grandchildren.
She works in her community.
She knows a lot of people.
And yet… she feels alone.
I looked at her and said, “You know the posts I’ve been sharing lately?”
She said, “Yes, I usually read them when I’m in the bathroom.”
I said, “I’m complimented! I don’t care where you’re reading them.”
Then I got emphatic.
“There are SO MANY GOOD PEOPLE in the world… people like us… kind people. But there is a lot of toxicity out there right now and too many GOOD PEOPLE are choosing to ISOLATE.
But ISOLATION has its own negative side effects.
We need good friends.
Not just professionals (like therapists and coaches).
WE NEED GOOD FRIENDS.”
This is exactly why I started The Honor Effect project.
This is why I started Joy-Based Living.
This is why I studied Healing Trauma.
The first quote in my free ebook, Sanctuary, says it all:
“One good friend is sometimes worth one hundred therapy sessions.”
— Sam Vaknin, author of Malignant Self Love: Narcissism Revisited
It is simply TRUE.
Connection is a RELATIONSHIP VITAMIN.
We are building a world where no one has to say
“I don’t have any friends.”

P.S. I just read this post out loud to her and I’m posting it with her permission.
P.P.S. I’m sitting on my porch and I just got thirsty. I created a fun challenge for myself: The moment I notice I’m thirsty, I have 60 seconds to get up and drink some water.
Ahhhhh. Much better!
