I recently discovered that in all the years I’ve been coaching, I’ve not been really interested in the person. Their age. Gender. Status. Etc.
What totally captures my attention is their radiance. Their authentic brilliance.
I see them the way a gardener might see a sapling in their garden and realize it’s something special and make room for it and nourish it so it can thrive and become a healthy something :-).
This kind of perspective invites us to transcend way beyond the base level of conditioning someone to perform better (example: giving them rewards or punishments).
When a person’s radiance is seen and recognized and celebrated… they often generate success BEYOND anything they ever imagined. Simply because it FEELS GOOD!
I want to invite you to see YOUR OWN RADIANCE and to set it free.
Our culture conditions us to forget our radiance. It speaks to our base personality and offers rewards for paying attention to its schemes and demands for attention. We become distracted. We forget who we are. It’s a holy war.
The only way I know to experience true and lasting joy is to transcend cultural conditioning.
Lasting joy requires a steadiness in the heart.
Joyful relationships require people who are steady in themselves.
It’s weird at first, it’s a new territory for many… but it’s the most natural thing in the world. I think that’s why it feels so good!
At JBL, our joy manifests through psychological stamina, spiritual discipline and relatedness without agenda.
In other words: we actively practice embodied honesty, authentic friendship, a sense of honor, and the mystery of grace.
Don’t let the pretty words fool you, though!
The process often looks like grappling with our understandings. What does HONOR FEEL like? What does ABANDONMENT FEEL like?
Our bodies don’t lie. We learn to LISTEN to the truths that are available right here, within our own very being.
The grappling is challenging!! But we love it!
It sets the stage for our relationships. It creates an environment where our RADIANCE can thrive.
We have learned that there is no shortcut to embracing and allowing all of our emotions.
And that authentic connections are the most natural way to rid ourselves of shame, which is the bane of cultural conditioning.
Shame is a sneaky, dirty ninja 🥷 which thrives in secrecy, silence and judgment.
Love, empathy and appreciation are deadly to shame.
At Joy-Based Living, the 12 Practices Ebook is our shared foundation for learning, growing, and thriving together.
We integrate these practices into every area of our daily lives and they are the basis for creating healthy relationships with each other.
Joy-Based Living isn’t counseling, or coaching, or church, or a cult.
It’s more like a 12-Step program where the price of admission is NOT an illness or addiction, but rather a desire for JOY.
Among people who see beauty in truth.
JBL is simply real.
And real heals.
I hope you’ll join us on your journey to greater wholeness and joy.
If there is anything I can do to support you along the way, please let me know.
Sending this with great JOY,
