Recently, a few people have asked me to share more about myself; where I come from, who I am, what moves me and inspires me to do what I do.

So… here you go.

My name is Debbie Happy Cohen.

My middle name is Happy, from birth. The name comes from my great grandmother.

I’m a first-born, first-generation American woman who was born in Brooklyn, New York to a very large and very patriarchal Iraqui-Jewish family.

My job description, from birth it seemed, was to be a trail blazer for basic freedoms:

Freedom to pray as I chose.

Freedom to embrace my sexuality as I chose.

Freedom to have my voice be expressed and heard.

Freedom to stand in my power.

None of these freedoms could be taken for granted.

And unfortunately, once I took these liberties into my own hands, I became extremely unpopular.

I was ostracized and stigmatized for my choices.

Not just by the men in my family, but by the women as well.

I was also highly empathic.

This combination, of empath and trail blazer, has shaped me to be who I am today:

A catalyst for people who are seeking deep, dynamic, powerful change.

A visionary.

A researcher.

A truth-teller.

A coach.

I’m not perfect.

But I’m a ball buster.

In my public “social media” persona, the warrior part of me gets hidden.

My close friends and clients know it all too well.

But on social media, it’s a little more challenging.  That’s because I don’t care to fight about politics, religion, medicine or sports or any other divisive/ popular topic.

I care to fight for YOU.

YOUR JOY.

YOUR WELL-BEING.

YOUR UNIQUE EXPRESSION.

YOUR CONTRIBUTION.

YOUR LIGHT.

That’s what fuels me and wakes me up every day.

I want to take a real strong look at the light within you.

If you let me.

If you let me look at you, you will feel so seen that I will probably make you flinch and you will probably want to turn away.

If that happens, we are right on track.

The question is:

Will you dare let yourself be seen that deeply and powerfully?

Because here’s the rub:

You’re gonna have to let go of long held beliefs in humility, playing small and holding back.

I’ll call you on it.

I’ll hold you accountable to being your best.

This will require tremendous trust on your part.

That’s your choice.

I will keep choosing YOU. The best in you. The most brilliant and beautiful you.

And coaxing it to come out.

And play.

Full out.

In the world.

The world needs your contribution.

Now.

Today.

This is me. This is my voice. This is who I am.

Over the last 20+ years, I have coached people individually and in groups to fully realize their potentials.
